Psychotherapy in Canterbury & Faversham
You may look as though you’re coping, but inside feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected — from yourself, from others, or from the life you want to be living. Many people come to therapy when familiar ways of managing no longer work, or when emotional difficulties begin to affect relationships, work, or wellbeing.
I am Samantha Walton, a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in private practice in Canterbury (CT1) and Faversham (ME13). I work with adults who want to understand themselves more deeply and create lasting change, rather than simply manage symptoms.
How I work
I offer a confidential, thoughtful and non-judgemental space where we can explore what is happening for you at your own pace. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy looks beneath the surface of current difficulties to understand underlying patterns, emotions and experiences that may be influencing how you feel, think and relate — often outside of conscious awareness.
Therapy can be open-ended or for an agreed period of time, depending on your needs. My aim is to support you in developing greater self-understanding, emotional resilience and a fuller, more authentic way of living.
I have particular experience supporting adults with:
-
Eating disorders and disordered eating
-
Relationship and attachment difficulties
-
Anxiety, stress and burnout
-
Depression and low mood
-
Low self-esteem and self-criticism
-
Bereavement and loss
-
Abuse and trauma
-
Difficult life transitions
-
Personality difficulties
-
Bipolar disorder
If you’re unsure whether therapy is right for you, this is something we can think about together.
Experience and background
Alongside my private practice, I have experience working in NHS settings, including community mental health services, a GP practice in Canterbury, and a specialist eating disorders unit. This has given me a broad understanding of emotional distress and the different ways it can show up in people’s lives.
